I don't know if this is known, but I just found out how to add configuration to a screensaver.

When running a screensaver the command /s is passed to the screensaver.

When clicking on Configuration for a screensaver, /c:XXXXX is passed to the screensaver. Where the X's are, is a random number. I guess this can be parsed out so you can use @equal to check for the /c command.

There are a few VDS screensavers in the VDS 3 Source Code section by Mac and NodNarb you might want to check out.

Yeah, I need to find a new spokes-penguin soon. Your penguin is getting
tired of hovering over the bottles to drool. Time to let him get back to

If I remember correctly the XXXX numbers you are refering to is a Window Handle that is being passed back. This allows you to paint a preview window into the Windows Screensaver dialog by sending the picture via Windows Api to the window handle. You can take a look at the vdssave.dll, as it provides a working example of a screensaver and handles password protection, configuration and ability to put an image into the preview screen of Windows screen saver dialog.

If you take a look at the gradiospheres example, you'll find something
new that had not been posted before with any screen saver examples...
How to put an active preview of your saver on the display
properties > screen saver window.

But as usual, I didn't make any comments Sad

Garrett's GradioSpheres example puts the preview in without an API I think.

Anyway it's a pretty good screensaver and I am using it currently as
my screensaver. Wink

Yeah, no api's for the preview. Just smoke and mirrors basically.. Grab
the win id of the display properties window, then travel down the
structure of the children until you find the right part of the window to
display on... then open your little preview window over that area and
keep track of the area's coordinates and move your preview along with
it if the user moves the display properties.

BTW, new spokes-penguin is now working for the Penguin Drool Co.

The preview window doesnt work for me on Windows XP Home with Garrett's example which is why I mentioned the vdssave.dll

Garrett, yeah, that's where I got the idea on finding the config command to the screensaver from.

And the preview don't work here either. XP Pro SP1a.

I do believe I noted that it wasn't tested on other systems. Maybe
try grabbing that id coming from windows to your .scr and see if you
can use that instead.
