Wow this is way off topic but you can goto http://www.safer-networking.org/ to get a free spyware remover that will clean that off your system. _________________ Home of

Download Ad-aware : http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
See if that solves the problem. You may not have any adware, spyware or other malicious files on your PC but rather files left over from improper installation/uninstalls.
I would be pretty suspecious of downloading anything called 'hi jack' to begin with |

Just FYI.
HiJack This is a program that will create a log of your system info, running processes, startup items, etc. to be sent to/posted for someone that can look it over and see what's on your system that shouldn't be(spyware).
Handy if you have someone to give it to that knows what to look for..but it doesn't remove anything for you I don't think.
You can't beat AdAware IMO, just make sure you update the spyware definitions just like you would an anti-virus. _________________ -Sheep

I haven't seen anything that AdAware couldn't clean off..but I usually don't get alot of spyware/hijack programs.
First you should click "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest definitions.
You might try using Custom Scanning Options if you aren't already:
Click Scan Now.
Select "Use custom scanning options".
Click Customize.
Check these:
Scan within Archives
Scan Active Processes
Scan registry
Deep scan registry
Scan my IE favorites for banned URLs
Scan my Hosts file
Also make sure you select all your harddrives to scan.
Then click Proceed and Next to start your scan.
If that doesn't get it either, you should try Spybot Search & Destroy from the link that mindpower posted. _________________ -Sheep

Well you noted there i a problem with the software but never really told us what exactly the problem is. Please be more specific as to what is happening on your computer. Can you not surf certain sites, are popups showing up out of nowhere, are files on your system becoming deleted??? |

problem that i was having is when i set my home page to like yahoo.com it would get chnage to search123 or whatever the name was..so i found on a web page a program called hijack this..this program scans reg, file, etc for virus (if you want to call it that) that can cuase this...i did check the files that shouldn't be on my pc. however it didn't fix the problem. BUT this ad ware seems to work i will find out more once i re-boot pc later...

More than likely you downloaded a program off the intenret (typically one of those security warning boxes from IE asking if you want to install some soft) and installed it. Theres some really nasty ones out that that will write tons of registry entries.
Theres another one called winshow, this one installs itself without any permission. It was due to an internet explorer exploit which allowed java code to execute without your permission thus installing an exe, and dll onto the target machine. What would then happen is the dll would execute each time you open a browser window (bho -browser helper object) and log where you visit and out of no where pop up ads on your computer.
Ad-aware will clean this up for you. Its a great piece of software and I highly recommend it. |
