hiya all,

i have a problem with one of my programs when running in a different zone to mine (australia) - i have been to isolate that the problem has to do with the fact that some countries list time as 03:04:10 (for hours:minutes:seconds) while others use 03.04.10 and i am wondering what the best of way of addressing that problem would be

i have found that OPTION DATESET, ":" seems to fix the problem (is the format correct?) but am unsure whether i need to also use OPTION DATEFORMAT

by way of explanation, my program stores the current date and time using @DATETIME() then picks the date and time later on using @DATETIME(), then i use @FDIV() to work out the time difference between the 2

the problem is when i then use @DATETIME(hh:nn:ss,%%time_difference) because if the windows time is not displayed using : as the seperator, then i get an error

thanks in advance

serge

I'm not sure how OPTION DATESEP can affect the time. You probably should use OPTION TIMESEP for the problem you are describing. The only reason for OPTION DATEFORMAT is that changing the separator alone isn't enough, some countries put the month before the day, so you need to specify what order you are going to use if you will be coding any date constants.

It's better, if possible, to convert date and time quantities into the fractional form (then you only need worry about OPTION DECIMALSEP Wink ).

i am already using the OPTION DECIMALSEP as i am using the fractional form of the date and time but it is not enough as it causes an error

i will try additionally using OPTION TIMESEP

thanks jules
