I'm trying to use VDSPing and when the PC that I am trying to ping can't be resolved, the program hangs and the CPU goes to 100%. Help!
BTW, I'd rather not use VDSIPP in this case because it's much easier to tell if the ping didn't work w/ VDSPING (in theory anyway). |

Same here...
I would dearly love to use it!
In my case, a list I was supplied, contained a mistyped address so I guess if it isn't in DNS, it fails and hangs?

If you guys are interested in using DOS PING/TRACERT
commands, I posted an example program in the VDS 3
source code section...
Cheers, Mac _________________ VDSug.dll does file IO, check/disable menu items,
non-VDS dlls, draw functions and more...
Free download (30k dll size) at:

I rewrote the DLL (I lost the old source code). Now it's using a part of Franois Piette's internet suite, as it probably was using before. Hopefully it will work well this time, please let me now if it doesn't. It's also much smaller than the old version.
For now you can download it at:
http://www.vdsworld.com/files/vdsiping.zip
No registration of the VDSDLL will be required for this temporary version, however the version that will be added into the VDSDLL package will be shareware as all the other DLLs in there.
The syntax should've been left unchanged (however the function name has become "IPING"):
@IPING(PING, <hostname>, <size>, <time to live (TTL)>, <timeout>)
and the result could be either of:
ERROR|<ip address>|<error message>
or
PING|<ip address>|<size of returned data>|<round trip time (RTT)>
Of course no online tester has been included anymore as it wasn't functioning too well anyway and online testing can be accomplished through a normal PING.
Best regards,
Tommy

Just tested, and it works perfectly...
Bogus hostnames no longer cause a hang.
Thanks for your efforts!
I could have gone down the route Mac suggested, with his excellent solution but speed was my primary concern when dealing a list of several hundred hostnames to check on a regular basis.
Thanks again
