the chat thing looks good...can i suggest that it be in a separate resizable window?
also, when it refreshes, could it scroll down to the last message entered
also, i found it very annoying scrolling down the list to catch up with what has been said, to find that i am sent to the top of the list after each refresh...this means that i have to rescroll after each refresh to find my last spot to keep on reading and to keep on reading from there to catch up...
finally, as i gathered from what others have said, for some reason the inputs are not listed in the correct order...mine ended up second from the top when it should have been a long way down...this also meant that i don't know if anyone answered my input
hope you don't mind my making these suggestions
thanks to ff and skit for what they have done so far

It's a good suggestion, however, if we don't put the chat box on the
forum directly, then it is likely that people will not use it as much.

I will take a look at this - I could not get it to work because when I had
it so it decended, it only showed the first 20 messages instead of the last
20 messages. However I have some ideas that I will try.

There's no way to fix this. However, you can look at http://forum.vdsworld.com/chat for a full-screen view.

don't worry, given that the new messages show up at the top and that after each refresh, we are taken to the top of the list to view the lastest entry, i reckon you should leave it as it is...i misunderstood the whole thing thinking that like a chat program the new entries were at the bottom
i'm enjoying it more now that i understand better how the entries work...new ones at the top
good work guys

I'll put a note that the newest entries are on the top to avoid confusion. _________________ FreezingFire

Ummm, is it possible to only have the chat window on the main forum
page instead of all the pages?
Having it on every page now puts a task on the loading of all the pages
here and is a bit harsh for those who do not have broadband connections. _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

Is it possible to offer two options for this chat? Allow either to have the
chat on the pages themselves, or as seperate window? _________________ 'What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.' - Confucius (550 b.c. to 479 b.c.) |

Hi,
I've made some minor changes to the chat script:
- The chat will display a message when a users logs in at the forum
- A sound will be played when somebody submits a message
- All smilies are supported
Happy chattin' ,

excellent vic...i was going to suggest that a list of who was logged in at the time be displayed...but you beat me to it
are you aware of the message i just saw on it today "Last message was 298824 hours, 53 minutes and 50 seconds ago..."?
could the popup chat box be a bit taller as the bottom of the window is roughly 1/4 up from the bottom of my input box...or is it just me who has it like that?
thanks again for all your hard work guys...it certainly seems to be a popular addition to the forum

Also every time I visit a page with the chatbox on it, I hear the log in sound. _________________ FreezingFire

Strange... normally it would only play that sound when the last message id that's stored in a session is different from the last message that is displayed
You could have a look at it yourselve, I don't have time to it myself since I've an English test tomorrow... You can find the it in display.php.
Best regards,

This counter doesn't work anymore since I implemented the changes I mentioned above . It did work again yesterday evening, but now it doesn't I think Skit is the only one who can fix it....

I don't find it so intrusive but the sound needs to stop playing every time you open a page that has the chat window on it. It is a real annoyance when I am trying to browse messages on the forum and I constantly have to listen to the sound file playing. Maybe it would be the best option to just have it only as a seperate window.
My two cents,
