With the old method, some downloads didn't work anymore because the site which hosted the files was down. If you want your files both at VDSWORLD and at your own site, you can still make a link from your own site to the VDSWORLD download link... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

We have chosen to let all authors upload their files to vdsworld.com because we wanted better control on who was able to download files.
Banned users cannot download files, for example.
The main reason why we have added this feature is because of the keygens and cracks that are coming out for files available for download at vdsworld. Now it's a bit more tricky for the keygen-developers to download the files to create new cracks, mainly because most of those guys have been banned from vdsworld.
Users who have their files hosted at two different servers (or user accounts in this case), can always choose to let their files being downloaded from vdsworld instead of their own server, via the url that is provided once the files has successfully been downloaded.

Frankly, I think we should use a slightly different system. Perhaps allow
trusted users to link to off-site files? I think if someone was to post a file
we didn't want here, they could upload it to a free hosting site and then
post a link to it, and we wouldn't be able to stop it. I think linking to off-site
files would be fine, and perhaps we can let the author agree for us to keep
a backup of their file in case they leave without notice and their web site
is shut down for some reason.
In a few weeks I'll be able to start really developing the features I've
been thinking about, since I'm really busy right now. _________________ FreezingFire

That's not exactly what I meant; VDSWORLD authors already are trusted
people, but what I wanted to prevent was that banned people can
download the files, to create keygens or whatever for them. (most
banned people are such folks)
This way of securing the files isn't really water-proof, but at least it gives
a bit more protection.
So it's actually a security precaution, to avoid that cracks/keygens are
released for author's their files.

Yes, you can retrieve files from a remote site, then run them through the
download script byte by byte, so people never know the real download URL
from looking at vdsworld. _________________ FreezingFire

BTW: That 'VDSWORLD Site Team' link in your signature isn't valid anymore; it should be http://www.vdsworld.com/site_team.php _________________ phpBB Development Team |

Oookaaay... I think there is something I didn't get here...
Quote: | 1) Your programs aren't removed, but they are hidden because we would like to have all downloads on the VDSWORLD server, to prevent not-working links. If you go to the main site and click the "Your Files" link, you can reupload the hidden files to the VDSWORLD server, so after which they will work again... (Btw. you should have got an E-mail about that... ) |
Or perhaps it is you who didn't get it, VDSWorld team people... I don't have any your files link. I can't find those hidden files you mention anywhere. The only links I have under authors are New File and Edit License. When I try to access the statistics page it tells me I don't have any files to make statistics for. I didn't recieve any email. So did you people really kill all my file descriptions and counters? I still can't believe it. I just got done collecting all my files and preparing to reupload them, but just now I noticed (or at least that's what I think) that you people are assuming that my file descriptions are still somewhere on VDSWorld... I just thought, in the time Skit posted this, that if I added the old files using New File, the previous file information, which was hidden somewhere, would pop up... I thought I wasn't able to see the hidden information because in the forum I'm not a team member anymore, but a moderators member, and now the site works on the forum data. Of course, I tried doing that (adding using New File) and it didn't work. Well, I'm so angry I can hardly breath If I wasn't in the university I would have smashed the computer screen by now...
* takes deep breath *
Well, I am now going to re-add my files and I would kindly thank you if you could recover the previous information ^_^ (<<< Forced cheesy grin) |

I am unable to add Protected Tiles Pro 4.0 to the site. I wanted to have both versions 3.2 and 4.0 available, since they're quite different, but I can't add 4.0, even if I try to change the filename. The returned message is always:
- Please fill in all required fields -
Even though that doesn't make any sense, because all the required fields were filled. |

When I click the buttons in the links bar above the chat window, it goes to this page:
Your are still using the old way of linking to VDSWORLD pages (index.php?page=...).
Please update your bookmarks or edit your posts
You will be redirected to the correct page (http://www.vdsworld.com/index.php) within 3 seconds

Please be careful before criticizing Site Team members.
I've just checked the database, and I saw that your author account hasn't been linked to a forum account. An email regarding this matter has been sent to protected@vdsworld.com at April 8th, 2004, 12:54 PM. It is up to you to check your email regulary.
Here's a quote of the email program I ran when updating VDSWORLD and converting the accounts.
Author convertor:

Please check your email before you're criticizing the way how VDSWORLD works.
If you still want to have your account linked to your forum account please contact team@vdsworld.com, as stated in the email that has been sent to you in the first place.

I hope you don't think I'm that dumb.
I never recieved that e-mail. Don't you know that 80% of the normal mails sent to pgware email accounts are blocked by prakash's exagerate amount of spam filters and protections? That only doesn't happen in my webspace, myshelter, because I asked prakash to remove those filters.
None of my statements is criticizing you. I just said that you weren't understanding my situation, and that was absolutely true - you only got it after checking the database. Even if I was criticizing, it would be my right to do so, as an (old) user of vdsworld. Or you're so sensitive that you can't take criticism? Heck, you're post is in the limit to calling me dumb (you repeated about the email twice and about not criticizing twice), but I'm not offended and I didn't assume anything, riiiight?
Now I went to the trouble of readding all the files. What would happen if you link that old account to my forum account? I would like to recover the statistics, but I dont want to lose the new descriptions either. |

Where do you get 80% of normal emails are blocked? You may have missed 1-2 normal emails per month; no where near 80%. Personally I think 1-2 emails missing are not a big issue compared to the thousands of spam, and junk virus emails bombarding email inboxes now. |
