|
|
Greetings! I have what I believe to be a simple question that shareware authors can easily answer. I have a question regarding the license and distribution of programs I create. At some point in the future I may be interested in selling a VDS compiled program. I would like to possibly sell/distribute only the compiled .exe program with the vdsrun50.dll file.
I am a little confused at this point in regards to the license rights. Currently I have purchased the Visual DialogScript 5.0 Standard edition. If I were to sell a vds program as shareware would this license be enough or do I need to purchase a version not listed on the website, but mentioned in the help file - the Unrestricted Software License.
From the Dialogscript version 5 help file:
You agree not to distribute programs created using the software. An unlimited license to redistribute programs created using the product is granted with every unrestricted license that you purchase. One full license must be purchased for each non-networked system on which the software is installed and used.
I am assuming this then is something I should contact Commercial Research Ltd. about?
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Welcome,
I believe the part you mentioned and the "You agree to use the software solely and exclusively for the purposes of evaluation, for a period of not exceeding 28 days." part only apply to an unregistered version of VDS.
Meaning you can't write a program and send it to people with the trial version of VDS so they can run the code, uncompiled.
Probably not a good idea to market a language which doesn't let you distribute your work. _________________ -Sheep

my understanding is that if you have bought a legal copy of the full version) standard or pro, you can then sell your compiled exe if you want to
you will need to include the file vdsrun50.dll with your compiled exe otherwise the exe file won't run
you are of course totally free to include the vdsrun50.dll with your exe file and no other licences need to be purchased
hope that helps

Hello, and welcome to the forums!
Yes I own a license to Visual DialogScript 5 Standard and I own a license
to VDS 4 also, and I have been distributing and selling applications created
with them for years now.
As others have said above, you are free to sell any program you create
with VDS as long as you have purchased it. _________________ FreezingFire

Ok - thanks for the quick response. I was hoping that the version I purchased would be all I needed to distribute the vdsrun50.dll and compiled .exe with . I just wanted to check with others to make sure first.
BTW: Thank you to all of the major contributors on this board (you know who you are) - you are making this program I would like to create possible.

The license you have is exactly what is needed to distribute freeware/shareware/commercial applications. You simply need to package up your product and begin selling it |
