Is there any way to refresh the icon cache from VDS or is
there a dll that can do that?
Thanks _________________ Chris

Hi, Chris!
I'm afraid that you stumpled upon another delicate issue. I don't think that there is a way
of having VDS by itself make Windows rebuild icons. As far as I remember no available DLL has
this option either. There are ways of doing it, of course:
1: Reboot the computer
2: Change some registry value pertaining to icons (icon size, for instance), broadcast
this change (which forces Win to refresh the icon cache), then change back this value to
the original and then do another refresh.
The problem lies in forcing Win to rebuild the icon cache. Not possible from VDS, I think.
So if it is important for your program, then pray for a DLL doing this or find a relevant little
freeware utility which you may include with your own.

I'll look to see if I can find a freeware tool then.

I've got a tool that refreshes the icon cache in windows, it's part of another program but it's housed inside an exe file.
I used it to create an Xp icon set that changes the icons when your computer starts up.
Looks great and works fine, i'm not sure about a dll though. _________________ ------------------------------------

TweakUI has the ability to restore icons from its Repair tab. Also look for the free FreshIcons utility from moonsoftware.com, if it's still available. |
