hi all,
just read the newsletter from vds which was great to receive and i have 2 questions:
1. when i click on the link that is supposed to take me to the registered member page, it asks me if i want to download a file CUSTS.EXE, what gives?
2. i could not find anywhere in the VDS site menu a link to the registered members page, anyone know what it is?
thanks in advance

I agree - it was great to see some activity from there. Even though the details on VDS 6 were a little sparse, I was glad to get it.
Edited to add: I didn't mean that in a negative way. I'm sure there is a lot of effort going into VDS 6 - but as a user, it is nice to see tangible evidence of it ... _________________ Joe Floyd |

Yes I agree ....... it's good to see the end of the hibernating period of Commercial Research.
Funny though isn't it ........ finally someone made a VDSZIP dll and asks for beta testers and all of a sudden CR comes around the corner with a ZIP dll of their own.
I don't know what the price for the new ZIP dll to be beta tested will be but I think $74 is a bit steep.
Is the CR ZIP dll the one that Jules talked about some time ago?
But it's definitely positive that CR is showing signs of life again.

Is it an opt in system, could someone forward me a copy of the newsletter?

This DLL is the one I mentioned some time ago. CR have had it for several months. They could have released it some time ago and then Bill might have decided to spend his time on something else.
I don't agree $74 is steep. Zip toolkits for mainstream programming languages typically cost $100+. VDS may be a hobby tool for many of you, but unfortunately CR has to pay professional development costs. _________________ The Tech Pro

In my opinion the best splash screen is no splash screen. Don't suppose I'll get asked to judge the competition, otherwise the prize would get awarded to the person who sends in nothing! _________________ The Tech Pro

True, still I'm very interested in the quality and price Bill has in mind for his zip dll. |

Well I don't blame you. I did point out to Emmanuel that by sitting on this DLL until a competitor had been announced, he had probably lost the chance of a lot of sales.
But it is a nice DLL. I have been using it for several months in my apps that were originally using VDSZip, and it's a great improvement, not to mention the fact that it doesn't crash or cause data execution faults. It can create SFX Zips with a very small header (19K if you compress the header with UPX first) and it also supports the 64bit Zip format. _________________ The Tech Pro

i agree and let's hope that there will be more newsletters, the last one i received was last year same time from memory - perhaps someone can confirm this
the deadline for the splash screen is at the end of april and given that we (?) only found out about it from the newsletter does not leave much room for people to work on a submission
may be they need to extend the deadline?!?

I'm in the same situation... Is there some way for me to sign up for this newsletter?

For those who didn't got the VDS Newsletter, I got it four times.
All with different logon accounts for the registered user account but send to the same mail-address, so CR must like me a lot.
What have you done? Did they throw you overboard?
Jokes aside, it looks like their user database is far from pure, so maybe just contact them and verify they still know you as a registered customer.
Should be not too hard for them to fix these omitions.

I'm looking somewhere from $20 to $30 US. I haven't decided as of yet. _________________ Bill Weckel
