hi all,

i recently came across a great program (hefty at nearly 10mb) but absolutely wonderful

it is called camstudio and basically compiles into an avi movie anything that you do on screen...you can select the whole screen or part of the screen...you can add audio via a microphone if you want to...and more

i don't know about you, but i find writing good help files rather laborious and was thinking of using camstudio to show my users the basics of how to run my programs...and because it records audio as well, i can explain things as i click on the screen...i see that as a real time saver

anybody who trains anybody in the use of software could also use it eg teachers in i.t. classes

the link to camstudio is http://www.ehelp.com/camstudio/product/screenrecording/ and the program is absolutely and totally free Very Happy

You can even include silent AVIs inside the exe as a resource.

How about size? Lots of graphics tend to bloat installation sizes quite a bit Crying or Very sad

dr dread,

the file size of the avi's is quite big but the program offers various compressions and other features to reduce the size of the file

perhaps the avi files could be left out of the installation file and users can access them ziped directly from your site if they need them

i also thought of breaking up the avi help files into sections much as a help file...this way users could download only the avi help file they feel they need as opposed to the whole thing
