Example:
Code: | info @shortname(C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings) |
returns
C:\DOCUME~1\Administrator\Local Settings
It is NOT ok...
It must be something like this:
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1
OS: Windows XP SP3
VDS 6.0

Hmmm... I'm on Vista so I don't have that path but, I did try this though:
Code: | info @shortname(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Visual Studio Tools for Office) |
Result = C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS1.0\VISUAL~1
Note: Used VDS 5 & 6 |

VDS 6.0 | Exactly the same here.
But this:
Code: | info @shortname(C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings) |
Correctly returns this:
Code: | C:\DOCUME~2\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1 |

I get 'C:\DOCUME~1\Administrator\Local Settings' in XP with VDS 5 also. _________________ -Sheep

geicsge,
Sounds like your system may be set to disable 8.3 name creation in which case the VDS shortname function did return the correct path as no short alternative path exists. To test this theory check the following registry value:
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
Value Name: NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation
Dword [0 = Enabled (default) / 1 = Disabled]
