Hello Shocked

For most of you, this will be nothing but a self indulgent post.

I stumbled across VDSWorld once more completely by accident, but it got me reminising about the old times (early '97 to late '00), and in particular, the good people I met along the way.

I would love to hear from Garrett, Prakash (MasterP, PK, PGWARE or whichever guise is flavour of the month), Tommy; and if someone could fill me in on what became of our old french man Emmanuel I'd love to know (I see VDS5 was released by a new company).

For those who think I might be some old loon, I was a total obsessive with VDS since I first learn to program in it as a kiddie in late 96, early 97 (I forget). I was especially immersed in the vds culture- VDS was (and I hope still is) a very tight community, where most people knew one another. I especially treasure harassing Emmanuel for VDS3 features, and the long IRC chats of anglo/american discussion with Garrett, and of course young Tommy to spice things up like only he could (glad to see you're still developing!). I was also inapproprietly ambitious- constantly trying to make VDS do things it couldn't and shouldn't do.
Oh how I miss those days Surprised

Anyway, please do get in touch, I'm keen to know how you're all doing

Cheers guys,
Mitch

Wow! It's nice to hear from someone who was at VDSWORLD long ago.
Everybody's doing fine, including Emmanuel, he's still involved with VDS
I think. Smile

Have you looked at VDS 5 yet? You'll be amazed.

Tommy's very busy with his work so there's a site team to help run
VDSWORLD. Smile

Garrett and Prakash are still here Smile

Welcome back. Wink

Still here and still giving Emmanuel a bad time about eating too much
garlic and them nasty snails and for being French. Wink

We don't make use of the IRC anymore. It really just kind of fizzled due
to lack of use.

PK's busy with school and his own prjects. Tommy's in the same
situation as PK.

There's a newer young crew working VDS World while PK and Tommy
are busy. These guys are good fellows and know their stuff.

And it is still a tight community if you ask me. We have our moments
now and then of course, as we did back then also. Some of us get over
it and some don't.

All in all, many old timers are still around kicking here somewhere, a lot
of new blood around and VDS has grown along the way, slowly, but at
least still moving up. Wink

You should at least download 5.x and check out to see how things have
changed since the last time you were here.

BTW, I think I still have some archives of some of your stuff here
somewhere. Smile

It'd be nice to have you around again.

-Garrett

PK graduated college awhile back Wink I'm still around here; just got back from vacation in NY, that was fun but expensive. It's nice to see you back Andy, I remember you were working on a gamging product, how did that ever develop along?

I think I remember seeing you around though I don't think we ever really talked. Good to see you back. I agree with the others, you should take a look at VDS 5. Very Happy

Hello Smile

It's nice of you all to say hello.

So, what's Emmanuel up to these days?

I guess IRC is dying a slow death :/ At least you've got this place, it looks like a nice hub of chit chat (incidently I once wrote a pre MSN network communicator in VDS called ChitChat, but that's by the by Wink ).

PK -> What you up to now you've graduated? See Alloy is still available Smile Checked out your sales page too, nice touch.

The gaming thing was finished, but never really launched. I guess I lost my enthusiasm for gaming - so it's kind of kicking back as a PHP tech demo. Had some nice functionality. If I'd of been better educated when I wrote it I would have made it more reusable as a cross purpose CMS. Oh well Smile Plenty of those around anyway.
It did have some nice functionality tho. Basically any one who wanted to be a manager could register a game on it, then it would become the hub for all games info - news, reviews, cheats, downloads, trainers, forums blah blah. Of course, in the time I've been twiddling my thumbs www.gamers.com did something very similiar, but I always thought it was a bit closed and limited (didn't take the distributed managers idea).
Come to think of it, I should touch it up and publish it, but alas, time is not what it used to be.
If anyone round here has a bit of entrepreneural zest + free time give me a call, we'll work something out.

As for myself, I'm finishing my last year at university over here in the north of sunny England. Uni has been fantastic, but the real world is fast approaching. Boo Sad Going to take a year out when I graduate, will certainly go travelling and might even descend upon America (Watch out Garrett!).

LiquidCode + Protected - the names don't ring a bell, but everyone changes their name so much (I'm looking at you Prakash) it's hard to keep up. If you ever went by another name I might recall Smile
It's sad that I'm a relative old timer that I get this odd feeling when I look at the names of people who had VDS extensions written in '97 time, back when anything wiht added functionality was very very exciting.

Will check out VDS5, see what's they've been up to.

What's the memory footprint of VDS these days? VDS2 used to be tiny, VDS3 pumped it up to a less desirable 4MB min. so where do we stand now?

By the way, I'd love to hear more indepth about what the others have been up to -> so if it's a bit private email me at m1tch101@hotmail.com (and send me a message via here incase Hotmail's spam is being a bit sensitive)

Andy

I've been running PGWARE and have been doing pretty good with that, it keeps the bills paid and lets me keep some nice change in my pockets Wink School was fun but it's much better out in the world making some coin and no longer eating ramen noodles Smile

Hehe yeah I guess I did change my name on these forums a few times, probably atleast once each time a new forum software was used Twisted Evil

You should download a trial of VDS 5, it's got more features, lets you use non-vds dll's, vds dll's and you can even execute some of the Windows API directly now. Theres a few problems with VDS 5 but the patch for it should be out any year I mean day now Wink.
