|
|
It seems to just hang my 2k boxes. What I had been doing was copying shutdown.exe from an XP box to the 2k machines and calling that. However, here's where I need your help...
Is it possible to combine shutdown.exe and another .exe I'm using into some sort of resource file in VDS4? From what I read, the resource file can only be used for icons. Is there something else?
If not, how can I get this EXITWIN command to work properly?
Thanks guys!

You can use SSRC.EXE or any other VDS resource compiler to add any
files you wish to a VDS resource file. I dont' have any info for you about
EXITWIN and W2K. Sorry.

I guess my confusion is how do I call the .exe from the program?

You can not call exe from source that's for shure...
I was trying to add an exe in VDS 5 #Resource and try to run'it no can do chef...
There is no logic in this about running exe from source inside another program OK
I remember first of Windows 2000 they had some problems around shutdown install SP4 and Windows 2000 resource kit
They use Shutdown.exe /s not like XP with -s
XP can work with /s and -s
Windows 2000 probably can't work with -s

Thanks.
Actually, I already have shutdown.exe tho. I was hoping for a way to pack a couple of .exes into a file, or the ability to shutdown 2k boxes with EXITWIN or some other manner...

When you use a VDS resource compiler you can also generate a map file
that contains the offsets for the files included in the resource file. My
resource compiler, SSRC.exe has documentation that explains how to use
the compiler. After creating the resource file and the map file, in your
script create a string list like you would to load a text file from a resource
script. Then save the string list under the required file name. If you need
a sample, let me know and I'll post an example.

This probably not what your looking for:
| Code: | #RESOURCE ADD,BINARY,C:\VDS5\filename.exe,1
BINFILE SAVERES,BINARY,1,c:\newlocation\newname.exe |
But it drops the file to a new location with a new filename.
But as said earlier you cannot run them from inside your EXE.
Pritty sure your only allowed 4 files per EXE
Just change the 1 to 2,3, or 4 for more..

If it makes a difference, I'm using VDS4, but I'd love to see how I could combine .exes then call them if you wouldn't mind.

Just to be sure, do you also need an example of how to create a VDS 4
compatible resource file too?

I'm guessing that your program is pretty straight forward, I just have no idea how to script it once I have the resource file. AFAIK, there is no documentation in VDS on it...

Hi Flypaper,
Here's the code you asked for. Hopefully this will help solve your dilema.
Please read the comments in the script before running it. There is already
a compiled resource file in the zip file. It contains two files, calc.exe and
notepad.exe from the windows directory. They are from Windows 98 SE.

hmmm
This script appears that it will recreate the .exes and run them from the .dsr. Is there any way to totally hide the .exes?
