|
|
Hello fellow VDS users,
Its been a while since I released any VDS app or DLLs.
I think these future DLLs might interest some of you..
But first I need some testers to run this compiled VDS app (prototype for now) in different Windows versions.
What is it?
Its a thumbnail viewer along with a bitmap viewer.. The bitmap viewer has special features that no VDS extensions has.
In this demo, you will have on the left side a list of thumbnails of images included in the ZIP file, but you can select your own directory containing images. It supports many formats (list to be annouced later). On the right side its the image viewer that shows the selected thumbnail. You can zoom in (left mouse button) or zoom out (right mouse button). If you zoom in a lot you can then hold down the left mouse button to drag the image around. Also you have a SAVE button which allows you to save the current image in many formats. The print button allows you to print it, but the cool thing is the Print dialog... try it and see.
Anyway.. what I want from you guys:
- Try it on your windows version and report any issues and what version you tried it on.
- What is your CPU of your PC your tried it on and also the RAM.
- Tell me if its slow, or ok
I would prefer that if you have a slower CPU, like a PII 350 MHZ for example.. It worries me on those machines..
Anyway hope to have a report from you guys soon.. Thanks in advance.
I already tried it on:
- Windows 98 (P4 2.4 GHZ)
- Windows XP SP2 (P4 2.4 GHZ)
Just extract the zip and run the EXE.
If all works well, I will probably release the DLLs for FREE!!! But will need one or more volunteers for the docs.. or else its going to be quick and dirty.
Get it here:

Hi,
just tested your program and it seems to work just fine.
I ran it on my laptop, Windows XP SP2 installed.

My 486 is long gone in the trash to test your program sory
No problems found
AMD 1800+(1536 Mhz)
768MB ram
Windows XP SP2
Tested with 714 jpeg pictures
Nice to see some professional quality results with VDS.
Did you tested on FAT32 with more than 2000 files ? |

Works great on my XP Pro laptop - pentium M, 2 ghz.
Nice program - very slick. I'll be interested to see what you do with it - might fit in with a project I am working on. _________________ Joe Floyd |

Just to inform everyone that this does not use the Windows XP thumbnails function. This is what is good about it Also there more functionality to the image viewer that I did not put in yet.
Thanks for those who tried so far...
Anyone has an older PC? Please... Mac? Garrett? |

Note: I have run and created many vds programs on this platform.
I hope you can work out the bug.

Marty, the sliding from one picture to another seems to go a little slow here (Windows XP Professional, Pentium 4 1.50 GHz, 512 MB RAM) but besides of that there seem to be no errors...
I still have a AMD K6 (comparable with a PII) with 350 MHz and Windows XP somewhere around, I'll try your program on that PC too today... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]

Ok,
I got it to work. I copied the files to a 8.3 directory on the c: drive and ran it and it worked fine. Humm..
This directory didnt work
C:\Documents and Settings\firstname.lastname\Desktop\thumbviewer
This one did
C:\test
I really like this .dll but if I may make a suggestion.
Could you have an edit feature or the ability to launch an editor like paitbrush.
I would love if you could include basic drawing tools to this dll like that in paintbruch. That would so fit into a project that I'm working on.. But this is a really really great addition
But not to complain it's a great dll and would love to have it. |

Hi Marty,
I ran it on an old laptop of mine, PII/333, 256MB ram, win98se. It took 5 to 7 seconds to load your pictures... And about 10 to 11 seconds to load a 6MB bmp. Zoom worked well, but dragging was a little jumpy. I was able to cause a runtime error 39 at line 177 by renaming a loaded file ( in windows explorer) and then clicking on the thumb.
The dll's look great!

Humm strange.. guess on 64bit is different.. I will have to add a @shorname() then..and maybe a check for CPU type. Interesting bug. Thanks

You will be able to open the image from the selected thumbnail in any paint app you want.

Humm, not possible. There will be some basic image manipulation tho. But not like a paintbrush app. Also some transition effects, so you can create a slide show.

Excellent! Thats the kind of test I wanted also Thanks! Could you try to select a directory of many image files?
Thats what I figured, it would be a bit slow on older PCs.. Unfortunatly, I am not the original author of the DLL, I do have the source code but not the regs for the Delphi components. I will look at the error.. you cheated!
To skit:
Thanks for the tests
Hope I can find time to create the DSU for both DLLs soon... might need some help.

I also got a run time error 42 at line 22 while I was trying to start the program from my XP temporary internet files directory. After doing the same thing as Bill, I got it to work. The program runs real fast compared to other imaging preview tools (including the image preview of Windows XP itself). I tested it on a computer with Windows XP Professional, AMD-K6 (comparable with P2) 350 MHz, 128 MB of memory... _________________ [ Add autocomplete functionality to your VDS IDE windows! ]
