I still pop in to see if there's any new posts...

I thought VDS6 was a big disappointment. So I've had a quick look at a few other languages recently (partly because VDS5 couldn't do what I needed for a project I was considering).

Well, like many I come by rarely to see what is happening with VDS. I'm still using VDS 5 for very small projects when I need to. And that happens very rarely.

The company I worked for bought VDS 5 a couple years ago, but told me to give it up because lack of updates (they needed major XML support).

So we use Delphi 2008, Java, PHP instead now.

ahh I still remember the good old days of making VDS extensions...nice experience.

So yes I am VDS ghost Very Happy

I stop in now and then. I still use VDS but I am slowly getting out of programming. I have a lot going on and haven't had time to do much. I do still stop in to see any new posts.

Hi everyone. Just dropped by for the first time in a couple of months to see what is going on. Looks like nothing much. It's a bit sad that things didn't perk up after the VDS 6 release. Seems like nothing came of the idea of allowing affiliates to get involved in marketing VDS. Quelle surprise.

I never even expected VDS 6 to see the light of day so I was pleased that it eventually did, but by then the lid on the coffin of VDS was already rusted shut. Oh well. I don't think there was ever enough sales of VDS to fund the development it needed, and the amount of development it got was not enough to encourage more sales. Vicious circle.

Well, I gave up programming for a living quite a while time ago and am into web development and marketing now. If you're ever bored (you'd probably have to be very bored) you can read my blog.

I actually run my business using Linux now, apart from testing Windows software for the site. I occasionally fire up VDS (under wine!) to do some maintenance to the few of the scripts I wrote that I still use. But I don't do any programming now except occasionally for my hobby, ham radio, and I use Lazarus for that.

Life goes on. CU.

Hi All

I still drop in now and then and I still use VDS extensively in my business. BUT we have to move on as there is now almost zero support in VDS. Emmanuel should have sold it when he had the chance; as it is now it has almost no value at all.

We now develop using Cold Fusion and Flex (with Air), but I would have bought several copies of VDS6 (instead of just 1), if the re-launch had have been better supported, and Emmanuel had got off his ass to correct the bugs as had been done when VDS5 was released.

Now I fear it is really dead.

I, too, moved on to other languages. I'm now working with C# for any application development and PHP for website development. I still have a VDS product running for a client but this is soon to be replaced by a C# version of the same product, with additional features which weren't even remotely possible with VDS.

VDS was and is a great way of getting in touch with programming, but for anything "professional" (by lack of a better word) I can't do without OO programming anymore.

As Jules said, life goes on...

I stop by from time to time now. New job doesn't afford me the time to continue programming anymore. I still fire up VDS 5.2 from time to time for small personal things, but really am looking at other languages even for that now. I had to wait when 6 was released and then after reading all the disappointing comments regarding it never went back to purchase it as we all knew before it came out that updates were really going to be far and between. Just think that the coffin has been nailed shut.

I'm still here, but busy with my daily work around the globe. I do work for a software developer at this moment, but it is not my job to actually program things. I did have created some small tools with VDS which save a lot of time (like from 3 days work to 3 minutes) but it is not my main function.

Every now and then I do still use VDS for small personal projects. Smile

Like many of you, i too have moved on to another language ... in my case, autoit ... i got tired of having to pay lots of money for upgrades ... autoit is free and does all that vds does (including many of its extensions)

vds for me is now 'the good old days'
