I found this interesting...

Google Programming Web APIs

Program ideas
Auto-monitor the web for new information on a subject

Glean market research insights and trends over time
Invent a catchy online game
Create a novel UI for searching
Add Google's spell-checking to an application

Hey FreezingFire,
I looked at this yesturday and it looks interesting but you have to have a compilier that can do SOAP or it is .NET. So I sent an email to Google asking if there was a way to use their API without the need for a .NET language. I have not gotten a response yet and I doubt they would have an API that does not use .NET. Anyway I just thought I would let you know.

I was really kind of hoping that we could use just plain old tcp/ip to use that.

Hi All,
Here is a quote from the FAQ's at Google's API SDK site about what languages they support.

Quote:
13. What programming languages do you support?

The service has been tested with Java (Apache SOAP and Apache Axis), Perl (SOAP::Lite version 0.52), Ruby (SOAP4R), and C# in MS Visual Studio .NET. The service has not been tested with clients in other languages but it should work with any language with web services support.

So your application would have to have at least web services support.

Quote:
2. What is a web service?

A web service is something you can call over the web from a program. For more background on web services, see http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/a//webservices/2002/02/12/webservicefaqs.html.

Well, as long as you don't charge us $69.95 for it! Hehehehehe... I'M
KIDDING! Smile Well actually... Please dont' charge that much for this
one.. Wink

If you can make something for this, that would be outstanding... As I
love using google myself and would love to make my own interface.
I've already downloaded the stuff, but dont' have a clue what to do.

hahahahahahaha Garrett,
Your so funny Wink I would not charge $69 for this. I was actually thinking of just making a normal DLL and allow people to use Gadget to call this. I don't really want to make more and more VDS DLL's especially if the VDS DLL would only add 1 or 2 commands or functions....I would rather just write a wrapper that Gadget can call and make it an example with Gadget....

If I make another VDS DLL it will be for something like a VDS DLL for DirectX or OpenGL because then it would be worth the time to make these. Eventhough you should be able to use at least OpenGL with Gadget without to much trouble I would still consider building a complete VDS DLL for this just to make it simple....

Hi All,
I have the DLL ready for the GoogleAPI. The DLL will let you search Google for any information you want just like their website does. It will also let you use their spell checker as well. I will let you know here when I post it to be downloaded. I am having someone test it for me Wink

dragonsphere,

i was wondering if you would be interested in expanding your current dll to include the following:

- include RESTRICT so as to get google search results for specific countries,

- include ALLINTITLE, ALLINURL, ALLINTEXT and ALLINANCHOR

all i want for the output is the number of hits reported by google but if you provide the output as you did in your sample program, i can easily pick up the number from the outpu

i am prepared to pay, say, US$25 for that dll

let me know what you think

serge

Serge,
I no longer support that DLL. I have a much better, reliable, and easier way of doing Google Searches with the new GadgetX.dll... Save your money for the new GadgetX and VDS 6.
